Items

Drifter

  • ESP-Moe is machine for Hawaii.
  • We will move our Pt. Lobos day from November (originally slated for MARS deployment) to August 10 or 11 for a drifter test-cruise.
  • During that test cruise, we will use ESP-Mack, as brains and surrogate core.  Moe will be 'on launch pad' and we don't want to jeopardize reagents with a canning procedure.
  • We are moving closer on purchase of refrigerated van.  Grech has a few final questions to vendor, making sure the van proposed can go on container ships.
  • Final Drifter meeting before Brent leaves is TUESDAY, 10:30am after science mtg.
  • Drifter Science
  • Must contact Julie to let her know MOE is ready (after checking with Roman)
  • Will set up weekly science meetings to track preparation progress toward Hawaii

WHOI

  • Bruce still not recovered; we could not get boat for this weekend.  Looks like June 10 is soonest to try.
  • Chris saw the buoy bottom cone and said it looks like wrench marks on the cone and that the cable had been cut.  Unclear, but we should think about overtly linking buoys with MBA (as people equate MBA and MBARI), given their Seafood watch program may be seen with suspicion by the fishing industry in the northeast. We need better Public Relations in the future, just in case, letting fishermen know what the instrument is doing.

JdF Preparations

  • Wand 'code' is very simple; on or off for two separate pumps.
  • temperature probe on wand tip needs calibration validation.  Bill to work with Brent on this this PM.
  • ISMS and fixed temp probe to arrive from Harvard today or tomorrow.  Will integrate next week.
  • ISUS.  Doug ordered him more 6-40 screws, but haven't heard from Luke.
  • Now that we will have Iridium tracker decision is to use Acoustic Recall to return D-ESP to surface.
  • Chris P. has workable mission script.
    • Testing still needed:
      1. Test temp probe calibration and validate.
      2. Test low voltage code (turn stuff off before we run out of juice)
      3. Test sampling at cold temperature
      4. move code to flash memory
      5. run (3?) full phases
      6. communications path
  • Decision is to close sphere on Thursday, June 9 before Scott leaves on the 10th for vacation.
